Requirement 2 names what it blocks, and it is nearly everything

Requirement 2 says to pass the Scouting America swimmer test before doing requirements 3 through 8. It counts them out rather than saying "the rest", which leaves no room to argue: requirement 1 is outside the gate and everything else is behind it.

Requirements 4 and 5 are dry: parts of a kayak, how hull design differs between recreational, whitewater and touring boats, how to look after a paddle. They are still behind the swim test, because that is what the requirement says.

Start with requirement 1. Hazards including weather and water, the first-aid list, and how Safety Afloat applies to kayaking. That is the whole of what is available to you before the test.

Requirement 6 needs a boat that is not yours

This is the practical trap on the badge. Requirements 7 and 8 say solo paddler, and they are two-thirds of the on-water work: six strokes and seven manoeuvres, all from one seat.

Requirement 6 does not. It asks for re-entry with assistance from a buddy boat and a kayak-over-kayak rescue. Both need a second kayak with somebody in it.

So when you arrange water time, arrange requirement 6 as a session with another paddler, and do not assume that a slot booked for "kayaking practice" will supply one. Turning up alone means doing requirements 7 and 8 and coming back for 6.

Any of three kayaks will do, and it changes nothing

Requirement 6 allows an open-cockpit kayak, a sit-on-top or an inflatable. Under all three you do the same five things. There is nothing here to choose between in the sense that matters to a plan (no part is added, none is removed), so this page tells you and moves on rather than asking you a question about it.
