2(C). Option C, In-Line Skating

SIXTEEN STEPS, THE LONGEST OF THE FOUR OPTIONS, AND THE ONLY ONE THAT NEEDS NO FACILITY. Four explanations and twelve on pavement. What it needs instead of a rink is geography: flat pavement, a gentle slope and a curb, plus your own skates and a full set of pads.
Notes and warnings
Note. THE LONGEST OPTION, AND THE ONLY ONE THAT NEEDS NO BUILDING. Sixteen steps, four of them explanations and twelve on pavement, and not one of them needs a rink, a park or an admission ticket. What it needs instead is three specific pieces of ground and they are worth finding before starting: FLAT PAVEMENT for the heel brake stop in step 7, which rules out grass, gravel and a noticeable camber; A GENTLE SLOPE, smooth enough to weave on, for the four one-footed slaloms in step 13; and A CURB for step 16. THE EQUIPMENT IS THE COST HERE INSTEAD. Rinks hire skates and pavements do not, so this option means owning in-line skates and a full set of pads, and step 3 asks you to describe the required and the recommended safety equipment as two separate lists, which is the right thing to read before buying any of it.
