Task · part of 2(D). Option D, Skateboarding
2(D)(12). An ollie, and a variation on it
Optional May not apply Often forgotten
A basic ollie AND at least one variation. THE FOUNDATION OF TWO OF THE FIVE TRICK FAMILIES in the next step, so time spent here is time not spent later, and the variation is what makes that transferable.
Notes and warnings
Note. THIS STEP PAYS FOR TWO OF THE FIVE TRICK FAMILIES IN THE NEXT ONE, WHICH IS WHY IT IS PRINTED FIRST. A basic ollie and at least one variation. The flip and shove-it family is built directly on the ollie, and a good deal of what counts as a flat ground trick is too, so a Scout who spends time here has already done most of the work for two of the three tricks step 14 asks for. THE BADGE ASSERTS NONE OF THIS AND NO RULE IS DRAWN FOR IT. Nothing says step 12 has to come before step 14, a Scout who can already do a kickflip needs neither order, and the trick families are chosen rather than assigned. It is worth knowing all the same, because the printed order happens to be the cheapest order to learn in.
