5. Care, cleaning and maintenance

Note. SETTLE ONE QUESTION BEFORE YOU START READING. This requirement says how to care for, clean, and maintain A BUGLE, and the note above the badge allows you to play a trumpet or a cornet instead. Those have valves, valve oil and slides that a bugle does not have, so the two answers are not the same evening's reading. Ask your counselor whether they want the care of the instrument you are actually playing or of a bugle. Whichever it is, the parts usually left out are the ones that are not cleaning: storage between uses, what moisture does to the inside of the instrument, and when a repair is a job for a shop rather than for you.
