5.0.2.0. Time in a position, and time active, need not be continuous

This may not apply to you. You have not answered "Where did the advancement come from?" yet. Answer it and this step will either settle or drop off.

Because neither active participation nor service in a position of responsibility has to be continuous, any periods before the Scout left count toward the next rank. This is why an absence does not reset progress toward Star, Life or Eagle.

Tip. Worth quoting to a board of review that has doubts. Active time need not be consecutive and may be pieced together (4.2.3.1); positions of responsibility need not flow from one to the next and may have gaps between them (4.2.3.4.2). A Scout who served four months as a patrol leader, left for a year and came back has four months banked.
